Beacon Health Options/use of interpreters

Beacon Health Options (Beacon) is the Managed Care Organization and insurance company that oversees and covers mental health and substance use services for Medicaid eligible HealthChoices members (both children and adults) living in Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Crawford, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

If you are Deaf…..
Beacon covers sign language interpreter services for its members by offering providers the ability to bill Beacon for this accommodation. If you need a sign language interpreter, your provider can provide that service for you, at no cost to you. The provider must identify an interpreter and then contact Beacon for an authorization.

If your provider is unsure of how to proceed with getting sign language interpreter services or they need additional assistance, they can call the Beacon toll free Provider Services number at 1-877-615-8503.

If your provider is not offering reasonable accommodations or if you need help accessing services, our care managers can help. Customer service representatives or care managers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to help HealthChoices members’ access treatment and offer referrals to network providers. They can provide HealthChoices members with county specific member handbooks (available in audio and braille), help locate services close to their home, answer questions about the HealthChoices program and help solve problems with services.

The goals of Beacon Health Options and Pennsylvania’s HealthChoices program are:

  • To improve ACCESS to health care services for medical assistance recipients
  • To improve the QUALITY of care available to medical assistance recipients and
  • To STABILIZE Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance spending. By stabilizing spending, Beacon Health Options can assist counties in developing a unique array of services and providers for each county that target its member’s service needs and strengthen its existing delivery system.

State Plan mental health services include:

  • Outpatient treatment
  • Case management
  • Partial hospitalization
  • Peer Support Services
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Clozapine Services
  • Laboratory Services (when ordered by a psychiatrist)
  • Inpatient Psychiatric hospitalization
  • Residential Treatment Facilities for children and adolescents
  • Family Based Mental Health Services and
  • Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services for Children and Adolescents

State Plan substance use services include:

  • Outpatient treatment
  • Detoxification and
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Halfway House and
  • Methadone Maintenance
